What is a Health Coach and Why You Need One

If you’ve ventured here, you’re probably wondering what a health coach is or why you would even consider having one. Both are fair questions, honestly. So let’s break it down.

How many times have you said to yourself this is my year to get healthy?

It may have looked like one or more of the following statements:

I’m going to start exercising more.

I’m going to start eating better.

I’m going to practice better self care.

You change your behavior in the direction that you want to go and not long after give up. Maybe you didn’t give up though. Maybe you had one bad day that led to another bad day and then another bad day until finally your new behavior has disappeared.

Let’s be honest, it has happened to the best of us. I’ve rode that rollercoaster many times when it has come to my eating habits. Making changes that stick can be difficult but with a little guidance and support, we can all achieve our wellness goals.

That’s where a health coach comes in!

WHAT IS A HEALTH COACH?

To put it simply, a health coach is a

  • COACH

  • CHANGE AGENT

  • HEALTH EDUCATOR

  • HEALTH PROMOTER

  • ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER

and so much more.

Health coaching is a blended practice that focuses on physical activity, nutrition education, and behavior change. A health coach provides health education, accountability, and support for their clients.

The coaching sessions are a judgement free zone where the client and coach work one on one to set realistic, appropriate, and achieveable goals to facilitate lifestyle changes that will improve or maintain their health.

WHY SHOULD YOU HIRE A HEALTH COACH?
